Sharia Is Not Divine Justice — It’s a Medieval Male-Supremacist Code Cloaked in Revelation
The myth of sacred law crumbles under the weight of its own contradictions.
For centuries, Muslims have been taught that Sharia is a divine, infallible legal system revealed by God — a blueprint for perfect justice. But this is a claim, not a fact. And like all theological claims, it deserves rigorous scrutiny.
Once we peel away the layers of sanctified language and apologetic deflection, what emerges is not divine justice — but a legal system forged in the crucible of medieval Arab patriarchy, later fossilized by clerics who declared their own interpretations sacred and untouchable.
1. Sharia Is Not the Qur’an
Let’s be clear: Sharia is not synonymous with the Qur’an.
-
The Qur’an contains few legal rulings — only around 500 of its 6,000+ verses address law.
-
The majority of what constitutes Sharia today comes from Hadiths — secondhand reports of what Muhammad allegedly said and did — compiled two centuries or more after his death, with no eyewitness testimony.
-
Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) was developed by male scholars in the 8th–10th centuries, under specific political regimes.
If God intended to reveal an unchanging legal code, He failed to do so with clarity.
2. Sharia Enshrines Inequality
Despite being marketed as a system of “universal justice,” Sharia codifies gender apartheid and second-class citizenship.
-
Women inherit half what men do (Qur’an 4:11).
-
Testimony of a woman = half that of a man (Qur’an 2:282).
-
Apostates can be killed (Sahih Bukhari 6922).
-
Non-Muslims (dhimmis) must pay a protection tax (jizya) and are barred from top political roles.
This is not divine justice. It’s a social system designed to entrench male and Muslim dominance.
3. Punishments Are Barbaric by Modern Standards
Hudud punishments (the so-called “limits set by Allah”) include:
-
Stoning for adultery (based on hadith and abrogated verses, not the Qur’an).
-
Amputation for theft (Qur’an 5:38).
-
Flogging for sex outside marriage (Qur’an 24:2).
These are not metaphors. They are implemented today in places like Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Taliban-led Afghanistan.
Yet the Qur’an claims to be a book of mercy. Where is the mercy in mutilation?
4. Sharia Is Built on Fabricated Foundations
Most of Sharia rests on:
-
Unverifiable Hadith chains
-
Sectarian opinions of scholars
-
Medieval consensus, enforced by men serving political rulers
For instance, the hadith "I have been commanded to fight the people until they say 'There is no god but Allah'" (Sahih Bukhari 25) becomes legal precedent. This isn’t revelation. It’s ideological expansionism.
5. Clerical Power, Not Divine Wisdom
Sharia empowers unelected clerics to issue fatwas, silence dissent, ban books, and annul marriages — all in God’s name.
-
In Iran, it legitimizes a theocratic dictatorship.
-
In Saudi Arabia, it backs a monarchy.
-
In Afghanistan, it props up the Taliban.
Where Sharia dominates, freedom dies. This is not piety. It is political theology.
6. No Unity, Just Endless Contradictions
Muslims are told Sharia is “one system,” but there are:
-
Four major Sunni madhabs
-
Multiple Shia legal schools
-
Contradictory fatwas on every major issue
Some say music is forbidden. Others permit it. Some allow child marriage. Others condemn it. If Sharia is from God, why the chaos?
Because it isn’t divine. It’s man-made law masquerading as revelation.
Conclusion: Dismantling the Illusion
Sharia is not “God’s law.” It is a pre-modern code, created by men, based on hearsay, and preserved by regimes hungry for control.
Its divine branding is a myth — a tool to silence criticism and enforce obedience.
Real justice requires:
-
Transparent sources
-
Rational ethics
-
Equality under the law
Sharia fails all three.
Let us call it what it is: a medieval male-supremacist code cloaked in religious authority.
