The Veil and the Lash
How Islam Uses Hijab and Hudud to Control and Punish
Introduction: Coercion in Cloth, Justice in Chains
What do you get when a religion:
-
Polices your body with fabric
-
Enforces obedience with whipping, stoning, and amputation
-
And calls it all “God’s mercy”
You get Sharia.
This post exposes two pillars of classical Islamic control:
-
The hijab, not as modesty, but as female subjugation
-
Hudud punishments, not as justice, but as medieval brutality declared divine
1. The Hijab – From Modesty to Machinery of Control
Qur’an 33:59:
“O Prophet, tell your wives and daughters and the believing women to draw their cloaks (jalabib) over themselves...”
This verse is cited as the basis for mandatory Islamic dress—yet:
-
The context was to protect women from harassment
-
The blame is placed on women, not on male aggressors
-
Modesty becomes armor, not dignity
Qur’an 24:31:
“...and let them not display their beauty except what is apparent...”
Interpreted to mean:
-
Entire body must be covered
-
Face and hands maybe exempt
-
Anything else = fahisha (indecency)
Classical Jurists:
-
Ibn Kathir, al-Qurtubi, al-Tabari all agree:
Hijab is mandatory, not optional -
Reliance of the Traveller (m2.3): Leaving the house without hijab is a punishable offense
The Logic:
-
A woman’s body tempts men
-
Therefore, her freedom must be restricted
-
If she's harassed—it’s her fault for not covering properly
The Outcome:
-
In Iran, girls as young as 7 are forced into hijab
-
In Afghanistan, showing your face is illegal
-
In Saudi Arabia (until recently), hijab was enforced by the religious police
This isn’t spirituality. This is surveillance in the name of piety.
2. Hudud – God’s Penal Code of Pain
Hudud (حدود) are the “fixed punishments” from Allah. And they are savage:
Here’s what’s on the list:
-
Theft – Amputation of the hand (Qur’an 5:38)
-
Fornication – 100 lashes (Qur’an 24:2)
-
Adultery (married) – Death by stoning (Hadith, not Qur’an)
-
Alcohol – 40 to 80 lashes (Hadith)
-
Apostasy – Execution (Hadith: “Kill the one who changes his religion”)
-
False accusation of adultery – 80 lashes (Qur’an 24:4)
No Mercy Built In
-
No consideration for consent in “zina” (illegal sex) laws—rape victims often punished for “admitting” sex
-
No differentiation between theft from hunger vs. greed
-
No rehabilitation, no second chances—just pain
Canonical Sources
-
Reliance of the Traveller (Book O):
-
o12.2: Thieves must have their right hand amputated
-
o24: Zina is punished by flogging or stoning
-
o8.7: Apostates must be executed
-
-
All four madhhabs accept hudud as binding
This is not fringe—it’s mainstream jurisprudence.
Modern Enforcement: From Theology to Tyranny
Saudi Arabia:
-
Beheadings for apostasy and sorcery
-
Amputations for theft
-
Women arrested for “immodest dress”
Iran:
-
Mandatory hijab with police enforcement
-
Stoning remains legal (though rarely carried out)
-
Floggings for adultery and alcohol
Taliban’s Afghanistan:
-
Lashings carried out in public
-
Hijab enforced by violence
-
Apostasy punishable by death
Conclusion: God’s Law or Men’s Cruelty in Disguise?
What kind of justice:
-
Covers women to erase them
-
Beats bodies to save souls
-
Kills dissenters to “protect faith”
Not divine justice—despotic control.
If this system came from a dictator, the world would call it tyranny.
But when it’s called “Sharia,” people whisper, hesitate, and obey.
The hijab is not just fabric—it’s a flag of submission.
Hudud is not justice—it’s sacred brutality.
There is no sanctity in state-sponsored pain.
No holiness in gender apartheid.
No righteousness in covering women or cutting limbs.
